EMC Gives Back Charity Campaign

If you attended EMC World 2014 (and even if you didn’t), you undoubtedly heard about EMC’s new employee-led charity initiative, EMC Gives Back.  The initiative has chosen for its first beneficiary, charity: water.

charity: water is a non-profit organization that brings clean and safe drinking water to people in developing nations. The charity: water model is founded on 100% of public donations going straight to the field, working with strong local partners on the ground to build and maintain water projects and proving water projects through reporting.

Founded in 2006 by Scott Harrison, it has helped fund 11,621water projects in 22 countries, benefiting more than 4 million people. Its goal is to bring clean water to 100 million people by 2022.

To kick-off the initiative, EMC Gives Back sponsored several events at EMC World that you may have seen:  Scott Harrison gave the keynote address on Thursday (EMCtv has the video); the Water Walk in the Solutions Expo, brochures, and more.  Here is a great summary of the EMC Gives Back events at EMC World 2014.

EMC followed that up with an entire week of corporate activities designed to bring awareness to world-wide water needs.  Search Twitter for #EMCGivesBack to see what’s going on.

Jay Snyder, COO & VP of Americas Sales & Services, wrote a blog post for the EMC Reflections blog discussing the genesis and benefits of the EMC Gives Back program.

To help EMC reach their goal of raising $100,000 for charity: water, I encourage you to make a contribution here — and more importantly, get your company or organization involved too.

I applaud EMC for this initiative and the employees who organized it.  It’s a good day when companies, organizations, and people desire to enhance the lives of others through the fruits of their own labor.  Work like this builds powerful bonds among employees  and, more importantly, between corporations and the world.  No one is forcing EMC (or you!) to do this, it is simply the right thing to do — a generous thing to do, a compassionate thing to do.  Now it’s your turn.  I encourage you to get involved with EMC Gives Back (or any similar, corporate-sponsored charity initiative), even if you aren’t an EMC employee.  As a partner, I am involved; as a customer you can be too.

About Scott
I have been implementing Documentum solutions since 1997. In 2005, I published a book about developing Documentum solutions for the Documentum Desktop Client (ISBN 0595339689). In 2010, I began this blog as a record of interesting and (hopefully) helpful bits of information related to Documentum, and as a creative outlet.
