Comparing Captiva 7 XML Files

I have been working with Captiva 7 lately, and discovered that much of the designing you do in Captiva Designer is saved as XML files in the Captiva project directory.  I ended up with two projects that had a Standard Export configuration with the same name, and I needed to determine if they really had the same configuration.  In Captiva Designer, comparing two Standard Export profiles in two different Captiva projects is not a simple thing to do.  So, I decided it might be easier just to diff the XML files.  Imagine my surprise when I discovered that the XML (and .config) files created by Captiva Designer are encrypted!  See the snippet below.

I called EMC support to discuss the problem, and they sent me the Emc.InputAccel.CaptivaUtils.exe tool to decrypt and compare these XML files.  If you need to do the same, simply let Tech Support know you want the Emc.InputAccel.CaptivaUtils.exe tool.  Note: this tool is not officially supported by EMC nor has it been tested by EMC’s QA department.

I have been implementing Documentum solutions since 1997. In 2005, I published a book about developing Documentum solutions for the Documentum Desktop Client (ISBN 0595339689). In 2010, I began this blog as a record of interesting and (hopefully) helpful bits of information related to Documentum, and as a creative outlet.
