eRoom Plug-in

Are you an eRoom user?  I encounter eRoom frequently and one thing that drives me nuts is using it without the plug-in.  Without the eRoom plug-in, eRoom is just another clunky web interface.  But, with the plug-in, you get a nice context menu that adds much needed and oft used functionality, and the ability to drag-and-drop content from eRoom to your desktop.

So, how can you use the plug-in if you have already logged without it?

First, you can navigate directly to the Software Options page. The URL should be something like this:  https://<eRoom Server>/eRoomASP/DlgChooseClient.asp. You should be prompted to install the plug-in.

If that doesn’t get it, try these other tricks:

  • Try re-installing the eRoom client manually.  You may have to ask your system administrator where the MSI package is for this.  It is usually on the hard drive of the eRoom server.
  • Add your eRoom server to your Intranet Trusted Sites in the Internet Options control panel.
  • Disable “Protected Mode” for Intranet Sites in the Internet Options control panel.
  • Try using the “Compatibility View” of IE9.

I have been able to make the plug-in work using IE9 on Windows 7 (x64).  Unfortunately, the plug-in does not work with Firefox or Chrome.
